## How to Overcome Writer's Block Writer's block is one of those nasty bugs you have to exterminate. But how do you get rid of it? We'll tell you why, what it does, and give some great solutions so that your writing doesn't suffer! Writer's block is a condition where an individual cannot write. It can impede your writing for days, weeks, or even months. And while it's tempting just to ignore the problem and hope that it goes away, writer's block is one of those pests that requires active extermination. But before we tell you how to get rid of it, let's take a look at what writer's block is. The Definition of Writer's Block The term "writer" in the phrase "writer's block" refers to someone who writes, such as a novelist, essayist, journalist, or poet. Writer's block is the inability to write. It occurs when an individual can't seem to finish anything that they are working on; this ranges from short sections of text to entire books. The inability comes about because of an interruption in writing flow (when you're able to create words) which leads the writer back into the ingrained habit of procrastination. The creative writing process becomes so difficult that the creative juices begin to dry up – hence, writer's block occurs. How Writer's Block Develops Often, writer's block happens suddenly; you sit down to write and suddenly you can't think of anything! You may be able to think of things later on, but at the moment you feel like your creative writing abilities have dried up. The more you try to write, the more frustrated you become; this leads to the writer shutting down the creative process entirely. Writer's block often develops due to procrastination or indecision on what comes next in terms of your story. Procrastination is when an individual puts off work until later. And while the ability to procrastinate is healthy when it's used wisely, when there's no goal in mind, it leads to writer's block. Writer's Block Causes These are typically the result of different things. Some people may suffer from writer's block due to an interruption in writing flow. And while this is most often due to procrastination, it can also be caused by something more substantial like illness or lack of inspiration; but if an individual isn't feeling well, they may not be able to write for days or weeks at a time. Likewise, they'll become increasingly less creative during this time; sometimes "writer's block" can last for months. But what about writer's block that occurs completely of its own volition? Writer's Block is Communication Breakdown When you find yourself experiencing writer's block, you need to be able to communicate with your characters. Writers often set up scenes in their heads and the images may not translate over into what they write on paper. So if you find yourself experiencing writer's block, get out your notebook and pen and start writing! That is the goal of all creative writing; we're attempting to convey our visions into the written word. cfa1e77820
